Frank Marquez Endorses Lisa Betz-Marquez

My name is Frank Marquez, and Lisa is my wife of 10 years. That gives me a front-row seat to who she is – not just what she says, but what she does, day in and day out.
Lisa is running for Scotts Bluff County Commissioner, District One.
First and foremost, Lisa brings a fresh perspective shaped by real experience. She doesn’t see this role as a position of authority or status. To her, it’s about accountability to We the People. Her approach is simple and clear: listen, learn, and lead.
I’ll admit it, this is where I brag a little. Around here, we don’t always like to talk ourselves up, but when it comes to choosing someone for local office, people deserve to know who they’re voting for.
Lisa is someone who does. She was the publisher of the Gering Citizen, where I served as editor. Together, we built something we were proud of – earning respect beyond our community, even from colleagues in Washington, D.C., where she got her start in newspapers. She pushed for excellence and made sure our work stood up to scrutiny, earning multiple awards along the way.
She’s also the force behind SAFE Ride during Oregon Trail Days, helping people get home safely. She stepped up to ensure the Kiddie Parade, a beloved tradition for local kids, continued and thrived. These aren’t small efforts – they bring people together across our towns, farms, and ranches.
The same is true of her work as a yoga studio owner and teacher. In everything she does, there’s a consistent thread: building community and supporting people.
On our farm, she’s created a simple campground that welcomes travelers from all over the world. Many come to experience the history and beauty of this place we call home. We measure our success not in dollars, but in the people we meet and the stories we share about our valley and its history.
That’s who Lisa is. She shows up. She works. She cares.
I’ve joked about her being a “busybody,” but the truth is, she’s a go-getter. She’s the kind of person who takes action and gets things done. As a former English teacher, I value clear communication and follow-through – and she delivers both. No empty words, no lip service.
Integrity is not something she talks about, it’s something she lives.
I’m proud to stand beside her. I may wear the sergeant’s stripes, but she wears the captain’s bars – and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
