Candidate Q&A

Why Republican?

For those who don't know - Nebraska law requires local candidates to choose a party designation, and I registered as a Republican. I have been an Independent most of my life. But Republican principles align exactly with how I think county government should function. County government is about stewardship of land, infrastructure, budgets, and taxpayer dollars - not about party affiliation.

I was raised in a Republican home, with conservative principles. Fiscal responsibility, private property rights, and limited government—have guided much of my adult life, especially as a business owner, property owner, employer, and taxpayer.

Like many people, my perspective has been shaped by experience. And like many people in recent years, I’ve watched friends, neighbors, and colleagues reassess party labels as they see issues more clearly through real life - not slogans.

I think independently, and I always will. I’m not interested in division or partisan fighting. I am interested in steady leadership, accountability, and serving this county with common sense and respect for taxpayers. That’s what I bring to this race.

What's your stance on private property rights?

The County Commission’s job is to apply the law fairly and consistently.

If a landowner follows zoning rules, uses no taxpayer money, and harms no neighbors, a project should not be stopped based on personal opinion. Government should enforce the rules—not move the goalposts.

When officials ignore the law, every farmer, rancher, and property owner is at risk. Clear rules and fair enforcement protect us all.

What is your position on prayer at public meetings?

I am a Christian, and prayer is an important part of my life. Scripture teaches humility and respect for one another, and those values matter in public service.

At the same time, our Constitution protects freedom of religion for everyone. As a County Commissioner, my responsibility is to serve the whole community. A moment of silence honors faith, respects the law, and allows each person to pray or reflect according to their own conscience—while keeping meetings focused on the people’s work.
